Huron is a town located in Wayne County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,117. The town is named after the Huron Indians.

History
The Town of Huron was created from the Town of Wolcott in 1826 as the Town of Port Bay. In 1834 the town's name was changed to honor the Huron tribe. From 1826 to 1837 a Shaker community was partially located in the town.
Geography
The north town line is Lake Ontario.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 111.9 km² (43.2 mi²). 102.3 km² (39.5 mi²) of it is land and 9.6 km² (3.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.54% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,117 people, 810 households, and 587 families residing in the town. The population density is 20.7/km² (53.6/mi²). There are 1,618 housing units at an average density of 15.8/km² (41.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 93.15% White, 3.40% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.70% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 2.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 810 households out of which 28.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.9% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% are non-families. 20.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 2.97.
In the town the population is spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $41,389, and the median income for a family is $47,656. Males have a median income of $34,205 versus $25,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,648. 12.6% of the population and 7.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.2% of those under the age of 18 and 21.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
