Hulk (movie)

Template:Infobox Movie Hulk (2003) is a movie based on the comic book series The Incredible Hulk published by Marvel Comics. It was directed by Ang Lee and stars Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly, Sam Elliott, Josh Lucas, and Nick Nolte.

The movie was not well-received by audiences or most critics, and experienced a second-weekend box office drop of 70%, the second-largest ever recorded (after Gigli). This was generally seen as due to negative word-of-mouth in response to what many considered a misleading advertising campaign and an unconvincing CGI Hulk. Many fans of the comics also felt that the filmmakers reimagined the Hulk character in a manner that failed to grasp his appeal and alienated viewers.

While not a box office bomb, the film fell well short of Universal's financial expectations.

The plot of the movie deviates somewhat from the Hulk origin story in the comic books. Thirty years ago, David Banner was a genetics researcher who experimented on himself, trying to improve on human DNA. Once his wife gives birth, he is concerned on how his modified DNA will affect his son, Bruce Banner. When the government shuts down his genetic research, David Banner disappears.

Fast forward to current day, Bruce Banner is a researcher using Nanobots to regenerate living tissue. The nanobots are activated by Gamma radiation. The Military-industrial complex becomes interested in the research to build self-healing soldiers. The father reappears and is interested in the behavior of his son's mutated DNA. An experimental accident exposes Bruce to the radiation. The radiation triggers his mutated DNA so that whenever he gets angry, he transforms into a green colored giant with superhuman strength. The film revolves around the twisted relationship between father and son.

The Hulk encounters various enemies throughout the film, including the U.S. Army, and a trio of snarling genetically mutated dogs. His father experiments on himself with gamma rays and gains the ability to absorb the physical properties of anything he touches. He also is able to transform into a humanoid form of any kind of energy (i.e. electricity, magnetism), similar to the powers of Absorbing Man and Zzaax. The Hulk fights his father in a variety of forms, eventually defeating him.
