Hubbell, Michigan

Hubbell is an unincorporated community located in Houghton County, Michigan. The U.S. Census Bureau has defined an area around the community as a Census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,105. The area defined as a CDP is partially within Torch Lake Township and partially within Osceola Township. The community is on the west shore of Torch Lake on Michigan State Highway 26 about two miles south of the village of Lake Linden at Template:Coor dms. The ZIP code is 49934 and the FIPS place code is 39680.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.8 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.53% is water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,105 people, 411 households, and 286 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 228.2/km² (592.2/mi²). There are 467 housing units at an average density of 96.4/km² (250.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 98.64% White, 0.09% Black or African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 1.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 411 households out of which 31.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.3% are married couples living together, 9.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 25.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 21.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $29,612, and the median income for a family is $35,481. Males have a median income of $28,750 versus $25,781 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,260. 13.1% of the population and 10.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.1% of those under the age of 18 and 12.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
