Horrorcore

From Academic Kids

Horrorcore is a genre of hip hop music that evolved from pioneers such as Kool Keith, Ganxsta NIP, Esham, The Flatlinerz, Brotha Lynch Hung and The Gravediggaz. Other influential performers and groups that can be considered horrorcore include Jedi Mind Tricks, Marz, Mastamind, Necro, Project Deadman, Twiztid, Anybody Killa, Insane Clown Posse, Bedlam, Q-Strange, Dark Lotus, and Blaze Ya Dead Homie. Bands from the Psychopathic Records and Psycho+Logical-Records record labels are almost all identifiable as horrorcore.

Juggalo

Main article: Juggalo

There is a rising sub-culture from the horrorcore genre, especially among Insane Clown Posse fans, known as "Juggalo" (females known as "Jugalettes"). Its members take after the image of many of their favorite bands that fit the dark hip hop music genre known as horrorcore, implementing evil clown make-up and black street clothing. Adoption of many Goth, Death Punk and Black Metal clothing and style is common, and the lifestyle of street gangster is taken on in a whole new way. Some individuals come up with their own sinister nicknames (sometimes their peers do this alternatively) after the likes of names such as "Violent J" or some simply go by "Juggalo/Juggalette [insert name here]". Technically this term means someone who is free from routine, expectations, although still promoting benevolence and and family-feeling among Juggaloes. Also perhaps believers in The Dark Carnival new-age mythology.
