Haltom City is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 39,018.

Haltom City is located at 32°48'58" North, 97°16'18" West (32.816129, -97.271634)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 32.1 km² (12.4 mi²). 32.1 km² (12.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.16% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 39,018 people, 14,922 households, and 9,997 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,215.9/km² (3,148.4/mi²). There are 15,716 housing units at an average density of 489.7/km² (1,268.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 76.82% White, 2.79% African American, 0.73% Native American, 7.71% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 9.23% from other races, and 2.61% from two or more races. 19.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 14,922 households out of which 33.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% are married couples living together, 12.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% are non-families. 27.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.19.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 100.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $38,818, and the median income for a family is $42,706. Males have a median income of $32,785 versus $26,013 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,740. 10.0% of the population and 7.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.5% of those under the age of 18 and 9.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

History

Haltom City was incorporated on July 5, 1949, and gradually expanded, annexing Oak Knoll, Garden of Eden, Meadow Oaks, East Ridge and, in 1955, unincorporated portions of Birdville. Haltom City elected Home Rule Charter with a city manager, mayor and council form of government on October 10, 1955

Education

Haltom City is served by the Birdville Independent School District (BISD). It has seven elementary, two middle, one high school and an alternative school within its boundaries.
