HMCS Victoria (SSK 876) is a submarine in the Canadian Forces' Maritime Command, the lead ship of her class. She is named after the city of Victoria, British Columbia. She was purchased from the Royal Navy, and is the former HMS Unseen (S41). The class was also renamed from the Upholder class submarine.

General characteristics

Type: Long-range diesel-electric patrol submarine

Displacement: 1,870 tons (std.) 2,185 tons (surf.) 2,400 tons (sub.)

Length: 70.26 metres

Beam: 7.6 metres

Draught: 5.5 metres

Engine: Diesel-electric, consisting of 2 Paxman Valenta 16-cylinder diesels driving 2 GEC-Alsthom 2.5 megawatt generators, which in turn supply the main battery. The boat is propelled through the water by a single 4 MW (5,400 shaft horsepower) electric motor turning a single propeller.

Speed: 12 knots (22 km/h) surfaced -- 20 knots (37 km/h) submerged

Patrol Endurance: approximately 8 weeks.

Complement: 48 crew and 5 trainees.

Diving Depth: 200 metres
