Grove City, founded in 1852, is a city located in Franklin County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 27,075.

Grove City is located at 39°52'41" North, 83°4'41" West (39.878030, -83.078157)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 36.2 km² (14.0 mi²). 36.1 km² (13.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.07% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 27,075 people, 10,265 households, and 7,544 families residing in the city. The population density is 749.4/km² (1,941.2/mi²). There are 10,712 housing units at an average density of 296.5/km² (768.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.17% White, 1.54% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. 1.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 10,265 households out of which 37.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.5% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% are non-families. 22.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the city the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $52,064, and the median income for a family is $62,059. Males have a median income of $40,599 versus $30,399 for females. The per capita income for the city is $22,305. 4.6% of the population and 3.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.


Government

Grove City is operated based on a city charter that was originally written in 1958 and later amended in 1982. The charter gives the city's power to a Mayor, City Council and Administrator. Out of the three, the Administrator is the only appointed position, while the other two are elected.

Cultural Features

  • The Gardens at Gantz Farm is a popular green thumb attraction. With over 27 acres, it is organized into three gardens: Tha Garden of Yesterday, The Garden of Today, and The Garden of Tomorrow.
  • Beulah Park: Thoroughbred Racetrack with live racing. Open for simulcast racing seven days a week.
