Great Sankey is a Civil Parish and suburb in the west of Warrington Borough, in north-west England. It is about 2 miles to the West of Warrington town centre.

History
Great Sankey was originally part of Prescot parish but in the 18th century the present chapel was built. The area was entirely rural and agricultural until well into the 20th century, with the exception of Sankey Bridges along the Sankey Navigation and what became to be known as the Sankey - St Helens Canal, where heavy industry developed in the late 19th century.
The last 50 years has seen the area transformed into a large residential suburb.
Government
The parish has a Parish Council and forms 3 wards (Great Sankey North, Great Sankey South, and Whittle Hall) of Warrington Borough. It forms part of Warrington South constituency of the United Kingdom Parliament.
Industry
The former heavy industry at Sankey Bridges has been replaced by light industrial units. A new "urban village" is under construction on the former Burtonwood RAF Base site.
Churches
The chapel now a Parish Church of the Church of England dedicated to St. Mary. The nearest Roman Catholic church is St Joseph's, Penketh, the nearest Methodist Church is also in Penketh and there are also one or two house churches in the area.
Schools
The secondary school is Great Sankey High School, which has a swimming pool and theatre. There are a number of primary schools.
Transport
Sankey for Penketh station is on the Liverpool to Manchester line and served by an hourly service of stopping trains run by First North Western. Frequent buses link Sankey with Warrington bus station and the shopping/cinema complex at Westbrook and the Gemini Retail Park. Sankey is on the A57 road linking Warrington with the M62 motorway. The nearest airport is Liverpool.
