Genoa City, Wisconsin

Genoa City is a village located in Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,949. The village is located partially within Kenosha County, Wisconsin and partially within Walworth County, Wisconsin. There is also a separate village named Genoa, Wisconsin in Vernon County, Wisconsin.

The town is the setting for the popular soap opera The Young and the Restless, although the real and fictional towns are similar only in name.

Geography

Genoa City is located at 42°30'13" North, 88°19'34" West (42.503612, -88.326063)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 5.8 km² (2.2 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,949 people, 674 households, and 512 families residing in the village. The population density is 337.4/km² (875.1/mi²). There are 699 housing units at an average density of 121.0/km² (313.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.49% White, 0.15% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 1.39% from two or more races. 3.23% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 674 households out of which 48.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% are married couples living together, 11.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.9% are non-families. 19.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.87 and the average family size is 3.30.

In the village the population is spread out with 34.0% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 35.8% from 25 to 44, 15.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 101.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $49,338, and the median income for a family is $56,298. Males have a median income of $39,890 versus $24,671 for females. The per capita income for the village is $18,044. 4.4% of the population and 3.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.4% of those under the age of 18 and 5.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
