Frank Goodish (June 18, 1946-July 17, 1988) was a professional wrestler better known in the professional wrestling world as Bruiser Brody. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Career

Brody fought during the 1970s and 1980s. His nickname in Japan was King Kong. He sometimes wrestled under a mask as Red River Jack.

Brody was a major star in the United States, competing in the National Wrestling Alliance, World Wrestling Federation, American Wrestling Association, World Class Championship Wrestling, and other various promotions. He was a world Heavyweight champion in Indianapolis and won an World Brass Knucks tournament in Australia, and he conquered Canada's and Puerto Rico's world Heavyweight championship, the latter for which he beat Carlitos Colon and lost it to the same rival two weeks later. He held titles wherever he went, and was famous for refusing to job, or to lose cleanly to put someone over. Despite his unwillingness to follow instructions, he was well liked by promoters for his ability to fill a house, since they knew that a Bruiser Brody card would be a sellout. At one point, in 1985, he was the highest paid wrestler in the world, pulling down $14,000 per week as a result of a bidding war between New Japan and All Japan Pro Wrestling.

Today's hardcore matches essentially all are inherited from the work of Bruiser Brody.

Brody had finished a fight in Caguas (a suburb of San Juan, Puerto Rico), when another wrestler (Jose Gonzalez) came up to him at the locker room, asked him to go into the shower to discuss business, and attacked him, stabbing him various times. In an attempt to save his life, he was taken by ambulance to Centro Medico (Main Hospital facility of San Juan) after a delay of forty minutes or more, but he died hours later, while undergoing his second surgery.

Various fans consider Brody to be one of the greatest brawlers in the history of wrestling.

He has been honored by two wrestling hall of fames in Japan.
