Forest Glen is a census-designated place and an uncorporated area located in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Geography

As an unincorporated area, Forest Glen's boundaries are not officially defined. Forest Glen is, however, recognized by the United States Census Bureau as a Census-designated Place, and by the United States Geological Survey as a populated place located at 39°1'8" North, 77°2'48" West (39.018909, -77.046797)Template:GR. It is located just north of Silver Spring, of which it is sometimes considered a part, just north of the Capital Beltway around Georgia Avenue. It is served by the Forest Glen Red Line stop on the Washington Metro at Forest Glen Road and Georgia Avenue.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²). 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 7,344 people, 3,003 households, and 1,792 families residing in the area. The population density is 2,198.1/km² (5,698.9/mi²). There are 3,091 housing units at an average density of 925.1/km² (2,398.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the area is 65.32% White, 17.46% African American, 0.41% Native American, 7.76% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 4.98% from other races, and 4.02% from two or more races. 14.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,003 households out of which 28.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.9% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.3% are non-families. 33.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the area, the population is spread out with 21.7% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.6 males.

The median income for a household in the area is $59,844, and the median income for a family is $74,607. Males have a median income of $45,613 versus $38,975 for females. The per capita income for the area is $28,536. 3.8% of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.1% of those under the age of 18 and 7.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
