Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado of Japan

Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado (後土御門天皇) (July 3, 1442 – October 21, 1500) was the 103rd imperial ruler of Japan. He ruled from August 21, 1464 until his death on October 21, 1500, giving him, at thirty-six years, 2 months, the longest reign of any emperor in the historical period prior to Emperor Meiji. His personal name was Naruhito (成仁).

Life

Temples, shrines, and mansions of court nobles, among others, were burned to the ground. The Imperial Court's finances dried up, and the Court declined.

After the end of the War, there was little enthusiasm for reviving the Imperial Court's ancient ceremonies. On October 31, 1500, the Emperor passed away.
