Stereotypes of "Edinians"

Due to the high income of many people in Edina when compared to the other cities of Minnesota and the United States, they are often referred to as "Edinians". There is also an acronym used to describe supposedly spoiled Edina children: "E.D.I.N.A. - Every Day I Need Attention". Outsiders and even people within Edina itself tend to classify many people within the city as being suburbanites living within a protective cultural "bubble", snobby White Republicans with large inheritances, and overspending mallrats who go to Southdale Center. The term "cake eaters" is often used to describe such people.

There are some facts which go against these stereotypes. There is a decent-sized Asian-American population in Edina (See Above). Not everyone in Edina lives in the wealthy areas, such as the locally famous Indian Hills Neighborhood. The Democrats had a 2.6 percent lead in the Presidential elections of 2004 in the city. Also historically the city was founded by Irish and Scottish farmers.

Still, Edina is one of the main reasons that Hennepin County is ranked among the wealthiest counties in the United States. Minnesotans compare it to Rochester, Minnesota in also highly ranked Olmsted County. The city is very well-maintained, partially due to the large amount of citizen funding and property taxes.
