Dover Plains is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in Dutchess County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,996.
Dover Plains is in the northeast part of the Town of Dover on Route 22.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²). 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.81% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1996 people, 834 households, and 503 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 631.7/km² (1,639.8/mi²). There are 892 housing units at an average density of 282.3/km² (732.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 93.79% White, 2.40% African American, 0.30% Native American, 1.25% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 1.75% from two or more races. 4.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 834 households out of which 28.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.5% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.6% are non-families. 34.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 3.02.
