Dayton Township is a township located in west central Newaygo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2,002.
The City of Fremont is located partially within the township and is the only incorporated municipality.
Dayton Center is an unincorporated community located just a few miles north and west of Fremont at Template:Coor dms. The FIPS place code is 20020 and the elevation is 859 feet above sea level.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 88.5 km² (34.2 mi²). 87.6 km² (33.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.08% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,002 people, 687 households, and 564 families residing in the township. The population density is 22.9/km² (59.2/mi²). There are 739 housing units at an average density of 8.4/km² (21.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 96.50% White, 0.80% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.65% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.95% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 2.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 687 households out of which 37.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.0% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.9% are non-families. 15.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.22.
In the township the population is spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.7 males.
