David Hayter

David Bryan Hayter (born 6 February 1969 in Santa Monica, California, USA) is an American voice actor, actor and screenwriter. He is most notable for providing the English voice of Solid Snake and Naked Snake in the Metal Gear Solid video game series, and for co-writing the screenplays of the X-Men movies.

Biography

Although he was born in California, his parents were Canadian. Hayter did some acting in the early 1990s, but became interested in voice acting after appearing in an episode of the sitcom Major Dad as a character with a Russian accent. This led to his role as the voice of Captain America in the popular 1994 Spider-Man animated series. He also did some voices in various anime dubs, such as The Castle of Cagliostro, and continued acting.

In 1998, Hayter became famous when he voiced Solid Snake in the successful video game Metal Gear Solid. The deep, gruff voice of the games' protagonist is instantly recognizable and a wide favorite with fans. He provided Solid Snake's voice in later Metal Gear games, most notably Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and provided the voice for a related character, Naked Snake , in the 2004 prequel Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

He has been the announcer in many television commercials for EA Sports games.

For some voiceover projects, Hayter used the alias Sean Barker, which was the name of the character he played in the 1994 movie Guyver: Dark Hero.

Hayter, a talented screenwriter, co-wrote the screenplays of the comic book films X-Men and its sequel, X2. He also co-wrote The Scorpion King and produced unused drafts for Hulk and The Chronicles of Riddick.

Currently Hayter is working on a number of projects. He's penning the screenplays for the upcoming comic book films Iron Man, The Watchmen, and The Black Widow (which he's also slated to direct).
