David Drew

David Elliott Drew (born 13 April 1952) is a politician in the United Kingdom, and Labour and Co-operative member of Parliament for Stroud.
He first contested the seat in 1992, but was defeated by the incumbent Conservative, Roger Knapman. He succeeded in taking the seat from Knapman in 1997, and successfully defended his majority in 2001, and retained it, but with a significantly reduced majority (350) in 2005.
He was identified by the Herald newspaper in Scotland following the 2005 election as one of the more frequent Labour backbench rebels, in the last (2001-2005) parliament, having 'rebelled' over both the Iraq War and terror legislation.
Prior to his election as MP, he had at various times held office as a councillor at Parish (Stonehouse Town Council), District (Stroud District Council) and County (Gloucestershire County Council) level for the Stonehouse area of Gloucestershire.
