Darien is a town located in Genesee County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,061.
The Town of Darien was incorporated in 1842 and lies in the southwest part of Genesee County.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 123.3 km² (47.6 mi²). 123.1 km² (47.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.13% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,061 people, 1,064 households, and 854 families residing in the town. The population density is 24.9/km² (64.4/mi²). There are 1,125 housing units at an average density of 9.1/km² (23.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.12% White, 0.10% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.03% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 0.23% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,064 households out of which 37.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.5% are married couples living together, 5.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.7% are non-families. 15.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.87 and the average family size is 3.20.
