Cypress, California

Cypress is a city located near the northern border of Orange County, California, USA. Though it is considered to be a suburb of Long Beach, it has many resident industries. Cypress was originally incorporated under the name Dairy City in 1956, but it was soon changed. As of May 2005 estimates, the city had a total population of 48,863. Golfer Tiger Woods was born in the city, in a house next door to famous toothpick sculptor Matthew Parkhill. Also a resident of this city is the sexy beast Rex Sanatra.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.1 square kilometers (6.6 square miles). 17.1 square kilometers (6.6 square miles) of it is land and 0.15% is water. Its Geographical coordinates are Template:Coor dms. Cypress is approximately 13 miles north of Bolsa Chica, the closest beach. Cypress is less than a 20 minute drive from Long Beach Airport.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 46,229 people, 15,654 households, and 12,241 families residing in the city. The population density is 2,700.3/km² (6,991.1/mi²). There are 16,028 housing units at an average density of 936.2/km² (2,423.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 65.61% White, 2.77% Black or African American, 0.59% Native American, 20.81% Asian, 0.40% Pacific Islander, 5.44% from other races, and 4.38% from two or more races. 15.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 15,654 households out of which 38.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% are married couples living together, 13.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.8% are non-families. 17.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.93 and the average family size is 3.31.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $64,377, and the median income for a family is $70,060. Males have a median income of $50,781 versus $36,337 for females. The per capita income for the city is $25,798. 6.0% of the population and 4.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.2% of those under the age of 18 and 5.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
