Conesus is a town located in Livingston County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,353.
The Town of Conesus is on the county's east border.
Geography
Conesus Lake is on the west border of the town, and Hemlock Lake is on the east border of the town. Both lakes are considered minor Finger Lakes. The east town line is the border of Ontario County, New York.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 92.8 km² (35.8 mi²). 85.3 km² (32.9 mi²) of it is land and 7.5 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.10% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,353 people, 869 households, and 662 families residing in the town. The population density is 27.6/km² (71.5/mi²). There are 983 housing units at an average density of 11.5/km² (29.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.43% White, 0.17% African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.04% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. 0.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 869 households out of which 38.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% are non-families. 18.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.69 and the average family size is 3.05.
In the town the population is spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who are 65 years of age or older.
