Cleveland County is a county in the state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 208,016. Its county seat is Norman6. Cleveland County is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,446 km² (558 mi²). 1,389 km² (536 mi²) of it is land and 58 km² (22 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.98% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 208,016 people, 79,186 households, and 53,846 families residing in the county. The population density is 150/km² (388/mi²). There are 84,844 housing units at an average density of 61/km² (158/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 83.60% White, 3.56% Black or African American, 4.40% Native American, 2.84% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.38% from other races, and 4.16% from two or more races. 4.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 79,186 households out of which 33.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.40% are married couples living together, 10.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.00% are non-families. 24.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the county, the population is spread out with 24.50% under the age of 18, 14.70% from 18 to 24, 30.70% from 25 to 44, 21.70% from 45 to 64, and 8.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 100.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $41,846, and the median income for a family is $51,257. Males have a median income of $35,674 versus $26,015 for females. The per capita income for the county is $20,114. 10.60% of the population and 6.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.20% of those under the age of 18 and 5.60% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
