Cleburne, Texas

Cleburne is a city located in Johnson County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 26,005. It is the county seat of Johnson CountyTemplate:GR. Cleburne is named for Confederate General Patrick Cleburne. The city's major body of water Lake Pat Cleburne is also named for him.

History

Cleburne is Johnson County's third county seat. It was formerly known as Camp Henderson, after which the present day Henderson St. is named.

Cleburne is located at 32°21'6" North, 97°23'33" West (32.351547, -97.392596)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 78.9 km² (30.5 mi²). 72.0 km² (27.8 mi²) of it is land and 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.77% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 26,005 people, 9,335 households, and 6,767 families residing in the city. The population density is 361.3/km² (935.9/mi²). There are 9,910 housing units at an average density of 137.7/km² (356.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 86.32% White, 4.44% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.21% Pacific Islander, 6.42% from other races, and 1.73% from two or more races. 19.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,335 households out of which 35.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% are non-families. 24.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.20.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $35,481, and the median income for a family is $41,975. Males have a median income of $32,131 versus $21,778 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,762. 13.5% of the population and 10.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.2% of those under the age of 18 and 13.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
