Clarkstown is a town located in Rockland County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 82,082.
The Town of Clarkstown is on the eastern border of the county. The community of New City in the town is the seat of town government.

History
The Town of Clarkstown was created in 1791 in Orange County, before Rockland County was formed.
Geography
The Hudson River defines the eastern border of the town, which is opposite the Town of Mount Pleasant in Westchester County, New York.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 121.6 km² (46.9 mi²). 99.8 km² (38.5 mi²) of it is land and 21.7 km² (8.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 17.87% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 82,082 people, 27,697 households, and 21,991 families residing in the town. The population density is 822.3/km² (2,129.7/mi²). There are 28,220 housing units at an average density of 282.7/km² (732.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 79.97% White, 7.87% African American, 0.13% Native American, 7.90% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 1.99% from other races, and 2.03% from two or more races. 6.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 27,697 households out of which 36.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.4% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.6% are non-families. 16.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.90 and the average family size is 3.27.
In the town the population is spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $82,107, and the median income for a family is $91,827. Males have a median income of $57,773 versus $40,805 for females. The per capita income for the town is $34,430. 3.8% of the population and 2.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.5% of those under the age of 18 and 3.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
