Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,157 km² (1,219 mi²). 3,148 km² (1,216 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.28% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 33,557 people, 12,047 households, and 8,673 families residing in the county. The population density is 11/km² (28/mi²). There are 13,531 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (11/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.05% White, 0.13% Black or African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
