Cinnaminson Township is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 14,595.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 20.9 km² (8.1 mi²). 19.7 km² (7.6 mi²) of it is land and 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.71% water.

Cinnaminson Township borders Palmyra, Riverton, Delran Township, Moorestown Township, and Maple Shade Township. Cinnaminson also borders Camden County and the Delaware River.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 14,595 people, 5,057 households, and 4,141 families residing in the township. The population density is 741.5/km² (1,920.4/mi²). There are 5,147 housing units at an average density of 261.5/km² (677.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 91.36% White, 5.08% African American, 0.16% Native American, 1.88% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.49% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. 1.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,057 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.5% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.1% are non-families. 15.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.85 and the average family size is 3.18.

In the township the population is spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.7 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $68,474, and the median income for a family is $75,920. Males have a median income of $51,187 versus $35,116 for females. The per capita income for the township is $27,790. 2.4% of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.0% of those under the age of 18 and 3.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

History

Cinnaminson was formed by resolution in 1860 from a section of Chester Township. Part of this resolution reads, "The inhabitants of the township of Chester having become so numerous that it is impracticable for them to meet with convenience and good order in one assembly...the Township shall be divided." Some of the early notable families included the Parrys and Lippencotts.
