Cape May Point is a Walsh Act borough located in Cape May County, New Jersey. 241 permanent residents were counted during the 2000 census. Cape May Point is home to the Cape May Lighthouse.

Geography

Cape May Point is located at 38°56'13" North, 74°57'55" West (38.936896, -74.965264)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.45% water.

Cape May Point borders Lower Township, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Delaware Bay.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 241 people, 133 households, and 77 families residing in the borough. The population density is 320.9/km² (819.4/mi²). There are 501 housing units at an average density of 667.0/km² (1,703.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 95.02% White, 2.07% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.49% from two or more races. 1.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 133 households out of which 6.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% are married couples living together, 3.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.4% are non-families. 35.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.81 and the average family size is 2.27.

In the borough the population is spread out with 6.6% under the age of 18, 0.8% from 18 to 24, 10.4% from 25 to 44, 34.4% from 45 to 64, and 47.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 64 years. For every 100 females there are 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.1 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $55,313, and the median income for a family is $69,750. Males have a median income of $63,250 versus $30,833 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $52,689. 1.7% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
