Camas County is a county located in the state of Idaho. As of 2000, the population is 991. The county seat is Fairfield6. It is the state's smallest county in terms of population.

Camas County was created by the Idaho Legislature on February 6, 1917 by a partition of Blaine County. It is named for a lily-like bulb found in the region used as a food source by native Americans and settlers.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,795 km² (1,079 mi²). 2,784 km² (1,075 mi²) of it is land and 11 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.38% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 991 people, 396 households, and 287 families residing in the county. The population density is 0/km² (1/mi²). There are 601 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.16% White, 1.21% Black or African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 2.22% from two or more races. 5.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 396 households out of which 30.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.20% are married couples living together, 4.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% are non-families. 22.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.92.

In the county the population is spread out with 24.70% under the age of 18, 6.60% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 27.50% from 45 to 64, and 13.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 104.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $34,167, and the median income for a family is $40,156. Males have a median income of $30,500 versus $21,563 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,550. 8.30% of the population and 7.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.20% of those under the age of 18 and 8.50% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
