Caldwell is a village located in Noble County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,956. It is the county seat of Noble CountyTemplate:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,956 people, 831 households, and 480 families residing in the village. The population density is 770.6/km² (1,998.2/mi²). There are 887 housing units at an average density of 349.5/km² (906.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 99.13% White, 0.15% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.20% from two or more races. 0.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 831 households out of which 26.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.6% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.2% are non-families. 39.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.15 and the average family size is 2.86.

In the village the population is spread out with 20.1% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 26.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 82.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.2 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $26,020, and the median income for a family is $36,094. Males have a median income of $31,250 versus $19,643 for females. The per capita income for the village is $14,942. 14.5% of the population and 9.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.5% of those under the age of 18 and 15.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
