Burbank, Santa Clara County, California

Burbank is a census-designated place and an area located in District 4 of Santa Clara County, California. Part of the neighborhood has been annexed to San Jose, while the rest consists of unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County. As of the 2000 census, the area had a total population of 5,239. The neighborhood was named after Luther Burbank.

The unincorporated areas of Burbank do not fall under San Jose laws, thus the neighborhood is home to a multitude of businesses some being undesirable, and many that need aesthetic improvements. However through obtained grants, many of the facades have been improved and the area beautified.

The historic Burbank Theatre (http://cinematreasures.org/theater/2615/) is an area icon and currently the home of a radio station, and also is representative of the architectural significance of the Victorian, Bungalow, Deco and Craftsman style homes. With over 35 recorded significantly historical homes, many residents are restoring these small but quaint homes, making the area much more desirable — and one of the only affordable areas left in Santa Clara County to live. The Burbank Community Association (http://burbankcommunityassn.com) along with many area businesses (http://www.sancarlosstreet.com/index.html), residents, and home owners are working as a collective team to ensure the Burbank neighborhood continues flourish.

The area is also a center for antique stores and is centrally located to Santana Row, Valley Fair mall, and also the downtown area. It’s definitely an area in transition, very charming, and one not to be missed.
