Bloomingdale is a borough located in Passaic County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 7,610.

Geography

Bloomingdale is located at 41°0'52" North, 74°19'49" West (41.014497, -74.330212)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 23.9 km² (9.2 mi²). 22.8 km² (8.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.45% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 7,610 people, 2,847 households, and 2,078 families residing in the borough. The population density is 333.9/km² (864.7/mi²). There are 2,940 housing units at an average density of 129.0/km² (334.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 95.55% White, 0.42% African American, 0.12% Native American, 2.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.67% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 4.36% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,847 households out of which 31.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% are non-families. 21.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the borough the population is spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 34.3% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.9 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $67,885, and the median income for a family is $75,433. Males have a median income of $46,351 versus $36,607 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $27,736. 3.4% of the population and 2.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.8% are under the age of 18 and 3.5% are 65 or older.

Bloomingdale has two elementary schools, Martha B. Day School and Samuel R. Donald School, and one middle school, Walter T. Bergen school. High school aged students are bused to adjacent Butler High School in Butler, New Jersey, in Morris County.
