Bergen (village), New York

Bergen is a village located in Genesee County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,240.

The Village of Bergen was incorporated in 1877 and lies on the eastern edge of the Town of Bergen. The village is at the junction of Routes 19 and 33.

Geography

Bergen is located at 43°5'0" North, 77°56'30" West (43.083388, -77.941754)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,240 people, 466 households, and 317 families residing in the village. The population density is 772.2/km² (2,002.3/mi²). There are 477 housing units at an average density of 297.0/km² (770.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.32% White, 0.56% Black or African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.97% from other races, and 1.94% from two or more races. 1.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 466 households out of which 35.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% are married couples living together, 6.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% are non-families. 24.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.23.

In the village the population is spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 32.8% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 103.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $51,016, and the median income for a family is $54,327. Males have a median income of $35,909 versus $26,364 for females. The per capita income for the village is $19,689. 3.6% of the population and 2.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.8% of those under the age of 18 and 7.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
