History

Manufactured in a limited run of 2'000 units the Beretta 92 Billennium is a collectors pistol. It was manufactured to celebrate the new millennium in 2001. About 800 Beretta 98 Billennium's were manufactured for markets where 9 mm Luger pistols are not to be owned by civilians. Serial numbers go from 1 to 2800 and are mixed between the 92 and 98 models.

Specifications

The Beretta 92 Billennium is all made out of carbon steel which is nickel plated. Like for a regular Beretta 92FS the barrel bore is hard chromed to reduce wear and corrosion. The slide is a Brigadier model while the safety system comes from the Beretta 92 Stock. The trigger system is single-action only and was taken from the Beretta 92 Combat. The rear sight can be adjusted for windage with two set screws.

Intended market

The Beretta 92 Billennium is intended for Beretta collectors, but some are being used for high volume shooting because of the fact that they have steel frames.

Design advantages

Mainly beauty, probably one of the best looking pistols ever manufactured. While a well made Beretta 92 Billennium is a good shooting pistol, many units were delivered with excessive frame to slide play which reduces them to collectibles. Those that have tight frame to slide tolerances are good shooting pistols.

Limitations

First weight, the Beretta 92 Billennium is very heavy which makes it kind of hard to shoot for a prolonged time. Furthermore, the nickel finish is delicate and turns black when in contact with moisture. This pistol was made for collectors, while it works, it does not shoot any better than a standard Beretta 92 and is subject to the same limitations in a harsh environment.
