Aston Martin Nimrod

In 1981, a partnership called Nimrod Racing Automobiles was formed by Robin Hamilton and Victor Gauntlet, then chairman of Aston Martin Lagonda. Hamilton needed help bringing together cash for a race team and Aston Martin wanted their name back in motorsport.
Eric Broadley designed the chassis of this new car, since he had experience already with the Aston Martin V8 engine fitted into the 1967 Lola T70; and Aston Martin Tickford, Ltd. prepared the engine. Although the Aston martin Lagonda factory wasn't directly involved in the building and running of the cars, their success reflected well on the company.
A total of five units were built, where one was a development car and the rest built to Group C and IMSA specifications. The cars raced between 1982 and 1985 with mixed results. The best result achieved was 7th place in the 1982 Le Mans and 3rd overall in the World Sportscar Championship.
In August 1983 the Nimrod partnership ceased trading and racing. At the time, the company was developing a highly advanced carbon fibre C3 car for the 1984 season.
