Arietta is a town located in Hamilton County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 293.

The Town of Arietta was formed in 1836, primarily from Lake Pleasant, New York.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 853.1 km² (329.4 mi²). 822.6 km² (317.6 mi²) of it is land and 30.6 km² (11.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.59% water.

The Town of Arietta is in the Adirondack State Park.

The south town line is the border of Fulton County, New York.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 293 people, 126 households, and 86 families residing in the town. The population density is 0.4/km² (0.9/mi²). There are 788 housing units at an average density of 1.0/km² (2.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 100.00% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 126 households out of which 23.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% are non-families. 28.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.82.

In the town the population is spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 30.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 99.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $36,375, and the median income for a family is $42,917. Males have a median income of $29,286 versus $22,417 for females.   • Arietta -- The hamlet of Arietta is located on Route 10 in the southern part of the town.
  • Avery's Place (or Avery Place) -- A hamlet on Route 10 north of Arietta and south of Higgins Bay.
  • Clockmill Corners -- A location by the western town line, on Powley Road.
  • Higgins Bay -- This hamlet is on the south shore of Piseco Lake on Route 8. The community is located on a small bay in the lake, also called Higgins Bay. It is north of the junction of Routes 8 and 10.
  • Kenwells -- A location on the west town line in the northern part of the town.
  • Oxbow Lake -- A small lake northeast of Piseco Lake, partly in the Town of Lake Pleasant.
  • Piseco -- A hamlet located by Piseco Lake, which was originally proposed as the county seat.
  • Piseco Airport (K09) -- A small general aviation airport north of Piseco.
  • Piseco Lake -- A lake west of Route 8.
  • Powley Place -- A hamlet by the western town line, on Powley Road.
  • Rudestone -- A hamlet on Old Piseco Road between Piseco Lake and Oxbow Lake.
  • Shaker Place -- A location west of Route 10 and south of Higgins Bay.

Adjacent towns and area

The west border of Arietta is the Town of Morehouse. To the east are the Towns of Lake Pleasant, Wells, and Benson. The Town of Long Lake is at the north border. The south border is formed by the Towns of Stratford and Caroga in Fulton County.
