Arcade (village), New York

Arcade is a village located in Wyoming County, New York in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,026.

The Village of Arcade in located in the southwest part of the Town of Arcade in Wyoming County, New York. The village is the location of the principal station of the Arcade and Attica Railroad and is located on Routes 39 and 98.

History

The village was incorporated in 1871.

Geography

Arcade is located at 42°31'59" North, 78°25'44" West (42.533257, -78.428894)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Clear Creek joins Cattaraugus Creek in the village.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,026 people, 819 households, and 520 families residing in the village. The population density is 312.9/km² (810.0/mi²). There are 876 housing units at an average density of 135.3/km² (350.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.82% White, 0.35% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.35% from two or more races. 1.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 819 households out of which 35.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.8% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% are non-families. 32.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 3.15.

In the village the population is spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $33,724, and the median income for a family is $42,688. Males have a median income of $33,646 versus $25,441 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,577. 8.8% of the population and 4.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.7% of those under the age of 18 and 8.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
