Notes
- The United States of America has not had an ambassador to the United Kingdom since the resignation of William Farish on July 10, 2004. The Chargé d'Affaires ad interim is David T. Johnson. [1] (http://www.usembassy.org.uk/ukamb/farishbio.html). Rumours in late January 2005 identified Mercer Reynolds as a likely appointee.
- The United States of America has not had an ambassador to the Holy See (the Vatican) since R. James Nicholson was appointed U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs on January 26, 2005. The Chargé d'Affaires ad interim is Brent Hardt. [2] (http://vatican.usembassy.it/embassy/dcm.asp)
- The United States of America has not had an ambassador to Jordan since the departure of Edward Gnehm on July 12, 2004. The Chargé d'Affaires ad interim is David Hale. [3] (http://usembassy-amman.org.jo/user/SectionView.aspx?PNodeId=1036)
- Due to security concerns the United States Embassy to Tajikistan operates from Almaty, Kazakhstan
- The United States of America does not currently have nor do they maintain diplomatic relations with the Republic of Cuba. U.S. Interests in the Republic of Cuba are handled by the U.S. Interests section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Havana.
- The United States of America does not currently have nor do they maintain diplomatic relations with Kingdom of Bhutan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Democratic People's Republic of North Korea and the Republic of the Sudan. Americans who travel to these countries do so at their own risk and in some cases in violation of U.S. and/or U.N. sanctions.
