Allendale is a borough located in Bergen County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 6,699.

Geography

Allendale is located at 41°1'58" North, 74°8'2" West (41.032713, -74.133824)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 8.2 km² (3.2 mi²). 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.95% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,699 people, 2,110 households, and 1,795 families residing in the borough. The population density is 829.0/km² (2,143.9/mi²). There are 2,143 housing units at an average density of 265.2/km² (685.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 92.48% White, 0.39% African American, 0.06% Native American, 6.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 2.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,110 households out of which 47.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.5% are married couples living together, 6.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 14.9% are non-families. 13.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.03 and the average family size is 3.33.

In the borough the population is spread out with 30.4% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.8 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $105,704, and the median income for a family is $113,390. Males have a median income of $88,210 versus $50,781 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $47,772. 1.8% of the population and 1.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.7% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Miscellaneous

Allendale is home to the now famous "Celery Farm." This nature preserve is home to hundreds of animals, including fox, deer, rabbits, frogs, turtles, rodents, and most notably exotic birds. Many rare birds have been observed by ornithologists including a bald eagle, a common raven, and a Pileated Woodpecker. A full list of birds and there frequency of appearance can be found online.

Allendale is known for having a great school system and being a wonderful family community. There is great recreation throughout the town, including Crestwood Park. Crestwood is a man-made lake with 3 diving boards and 3 beaches. Included in the Park is a recreational barn, 3 baseball/softball fields, 2 soccer/football fields, and a lacrosse field.
