Allen Park, Michigan

Allen Park is a city located in Wayne County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 29,376. Ford Motor Company has a plant here, assembling prototype vehicles. Allen Park is also a Member of the Downriver Community. Since 2002, Allen Park has also been the practice home of the Detroit Lions, as well as where the team is headquartered. The practice facility in Allen Park will be used by the NFC representative in Super Bowl XL in 2006, with the Pontiac Silverdome emerging as the leading candidate for the AFC practice facility. Technically, the training facility is here, but it's only the address of it.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 18.2 km² (7.0 mi²). 18.2 km² (7.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 29,376 people, 11,974 households, and 8,202 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,618.0/km² (4,189.7/mi²). There are 12,254 housing units at an average density of 674.9/km² (1,747.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.60% White, 0.73% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.21% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. 4.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,974 households out of which 27.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% are non-families. 28.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.99.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $51,992, and the median income for a family is $63,350. Males have a median income of $50,143 versus $31,168 for females. The per capita income for the city is $24,980. 3.2% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
