The Air Force Training Ribbon is the lowest decoration of the United States Air Force, ranking only above foreign military awards.
The Air Force Training Ribbon was established in October of 1980 and is authorized to any member of the U.S. Air Force who completes an “authorized accession training program”. Such programs include Air Force Basic Training, Air Force ROTC, and Air Force Officer Training School.
The Air Force Training Ribbon is retroactive without restriction, meaning that any service member on active duty after 1980, who had previously completed an accession training program, would be authorized the decoration. For those service members who completed more than one accession programs, such as basic training followed by officer candidate school, an oak leaf cluster is authorized to the Air Force Training Ribbon.
The United States Army equivalent of the Air Force Training Ribbon is the Army Service Ribbon. The U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and United States Marines do not have an award corresponding to the Air Force Training Ribbon and prohibits the wear of the ribbon on their services uniforms.
