Adriana La Cerva

This article is about a fictional character from The Sopranos.

Adriana La Cerva, played by Drea de Matteo, is the long-time girlfriend and, later, fiancée of Tony Soprano's right-hand man, Christopher Moltisanti, on the fictional HBO TV series, The Sopranos.

Adriana seemed like a shallow and materialistic person, interested in the things that Christopher's money could buy: expensive cars, jewelry, designer clothing and furs. However, Adriana also acted intelligently at times and always seemed to seek what's best for Christopher. Nonetheless, Adriana was also career-oriented and was eventually set up as the manager of the Crazy Horse club in Long Branch, a position that Christopher installed her in.

However, the FBI had also been targeting Adriana as a potential weakness in the family's organization. Upon the death of Sal "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero, the FBI looked to Adriana as a close relation to a rising star in the crime family and sent Special Agent Deborah Ciccerone to a mall to befriend Adriana. The tactic actually backfired, but the FBI were still able to get enough on Christopher's heroin problem to use as leverage. Adriana, loyal to Christopher and his family, avoided giving up any serious information on the family and did her best to avoid the Soprano family house in order to have nothing to give back to the Feds.

Ultimately, her secret caught up with her after the FBI learned of her involvement in a murder and threatened to press charges against her unless she offered her full cooperation. She chose to reveal the truth to Christopher, hoping they could run away together and start new lives. Unfortunately, Christopher's loyalty to his crime family turned out to be greater than his love for her as he revealed Adriana's status as an informant to Tony Soprano. In accordance with the codes of organized crime, Tony had Silvio Dante drive Adriana someplace secluded to kill her. (Two things should be taken into account here, however. The first is that Drea de Matteo is still under contract to appear in the sixth and final season; the second is that the camera panned upward, away from Silvio and the crawling Adriana, before the single gunshot that supposedly killed her.)

Trivia

LaCerva is Italian for "the deer".
