Gary E. Johnson

Gary Earl Johnson (born January 1 1953) is a former Republican Governor of New Mexico and an outspoken opponent of the War on Drugs. He won a tough Republican primary in 1994 and defeated the democratic governor, Bruce King, in the general election of that year. He was reelected in 1998 and served as governor from 1995 until 2003, not running again in 2002. He considered a run for President in 2004 as a Libertarian. He became widely thought of as a sympathizer of the militia movement and was criticized for meeting with their representatives in 1995, soon after the Oklahoma City bombing.
