Flag of California
The flag of California, the official state flag of California, was first flown during the Bear Flag Revolt and was adopted by the California state legislature in 1911. The bear depicted is a California grizzly or golden bear, a grizzly subspecies that is now extinct. The five-point star is a nod to the Republic of Texas and the bear represents strength. The flag is sometimes informally known as the Bear Flag.
