Its name is in honor of
William W. Bibb, a
Governor
of Alabama. As of
2000 the
population is 20,826. Its
county
seat is
Centreville.
History

Cahawba
County was established on
February
7,
1818, named for the Cahawba
River, ultimately from the
Choctaw
for "water above" with its
county
seat at Cahawba. In
1820,
it was renamed
Bibb County. Geography

Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,622
km²

mi²). 1,614
km² (623 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water.
The total area is 0.50% water.
