Alexander Nevsky (film)
Alexander Nevsky is a Soviet propaganda film directed by Sergei Eisenstein and released in 1938, under the Stalinist regime. The screenplay is based on the 13th century battle in which Alexander Nevsky defeated the Teutonic Knights on the frozen surface of Lake Chud. Setting this historical defeat of Germans by Russians to film was a not so subtle prophecy that history was about to repeat itself.
The film score is composed by Sergei Prokofiev, who also reworked the score into a concert cantata.
